NNN Member Requests Turn into Memories
Did you know that when NNN hears from our members for special requests, we look to our volunteer pool of nearly 70 strong to make it happen?
When two of our members were missing out on singing Christmas carols, we quickly found two volunteers who wanted to play piano and sing along with our members.
(Thanks to fully vaccinated volunteers and members, we enjoyed making this request a reality.)

What's Next? Game Play? Yes, Please!
We have new requests coming in for adding games to our home visits, and extending our twice monthly game playing events. We're looking for:
  • Chess or checkers players (we have a member who would love to play)
  • Folks interested in learning or doing line dancing (we will follow latest CDC guidelines for timing)
  • Mahjong players (do not need to be experts, could use an expert to teach others, or we might see if we can find a teacher if we have a few folks wanting to learn
  • Bridge players (can we get together at least one foursome?)

NNN is Grateful for our Volunteers, and Ready to Add More!
Behind the Scenes with an NNN Volunteer - Anne G
1. Why did you join NNN as a volunteer?
I began volunteering for NNN after my husband's death, a time when I sorely needed to find activities that gave me a sense of purpose and community. My participation over the past couple years has brought me that and much, much more- including fun!

2. How has NNN made a difference for you?
Volunteering has always brought me satisfaction and pleasure. NNN has provided both for me as well as the opportunity to support its growth as an organization. As a senior myself, it's also reassuring to know that NNN can be there for me in the future.

3. What impact has NNN had on the community?
The benefits of NNN to the communities it serves go far beyond those provided to its members. Families, human service agencies, volunteers, senior centers, all these and more can count on NNN to help support aging citizens so they in turn can continue to contribute to their own communities.

Kicking off January with a New Member/Volunteer Program: Let's ¨Buddy up!¨

*This is not a Service request*

We are looking for village members and volunteers who would like to "buddy up" with one new member!
What we hope you can offer as a buddy (and help you achieve): Someone to be around; available to check-in once a week or so in person or by phone
Someone to help guide a new member through the application process and show them how to request services, join social events and find our news and updates Help each other share your stories (starting with each other) so we might all grow from your experience, interests, wisdom and thoughts about life & our community (through newsletters, eblasts, member networking profiles)
We hope a buddy system might help us all start connecting with each other more and help you make a new friend along the way.

And of course, we would be happy to train you on anything (the NNN website, service requests, stories/profiles, etc.) that you could use a refresher-course in yourself! Anyone interested should feel free to reach us at services@northwestneighborsnetwork.org or by calling Danie at 253-237-2848 and we can tell you more about it!

We're excited to welcome aboard our first employee this December, Danie Belfield-Vigh, our NNN Program Manager who will be working with Members and Volunteers.

Special Opportunity to Attend NNN Workshop: Tiny Habits

(May Offer Beyond Members if Enough Openings Available)

If you are sick of having goals that never seem to materialize or if you are tired of feeling disorganized, consider learning to create TINY HABITS. Join fellow NNN member and certified instructor of Tiny Habits, Cynthia O., as she leads us in this interactive workshop offered over Zoom. In 3 one hour sessions, Cynthia will teach you how to create your own TINY HABIT "recipes" as she provides coaching and support to make the changes you want. And you will have fun celebrating your successes!

About the Workshop:

The workshop is limited to 10 participants, who must register in advance. For a successful workshop, Cynthia asks that you commit to attending each of the 3 sessions, which will take place from 2:00-3:00 on 3 consecutive Friday afternoons: January 28, February 4 and February 11, 2022. While not required, Cynthia encourages all participants to read the book, Tiny Habits: The Small Changes That Change Everything, by B.J. Fogg, PhD in advance of the workshop if possible. The book is available through the libraries, Kindle, Audiobook on Audible or at online and retail bookstores.

2022 NNN Board Officers
From the NNN Board of Directors
This has been a year of expansion and change for NNN (going from 60 people to 160, and providing over 1,800 services, while continually adjusting policies and practices to meet the Covid-19 challenges).  The Board wishes to express our gratitude and awe at all our NNN community has accomplished in helping seniors in Shoreline, Lake Forest Park, Edmonds, Lynnwood, Brier, and Mountlake Terrace in 2021!

On December 8th, the board met and elected officers for 2022, looked at what needs to be done to wrap up this year, and started looking ahead to 2022.  One of our commitments is to grow our board in numbers and diversity.  Are you thinking of new ways to give back to your community?  Know someone who would be a good addition to the NNN Board?  We would love to hear from you!

Thanks from the NNN Board to our members, volunteers, and support from our community --
