Pop Up Walk! Explore the Center for Urban Horticulture

About this event

Join Host Marty B. at this intriguing and walk friendly center.  The Center for Urban Horticulture, part of the University of Washington Botanic Gardens, includes the Union Bay Natural Area and 6 acres of display gardens. The gardens at the Center represent the transition from intensively cultivated to natural spaces supporting wildlife. The grounds include display gardens and natural areas that are free and open to the public during daylight hours. The Union Bay Natural Area is situated on the north shore of Union Bay of Lake Washington and is a premier birdwatching site in the City of Seattle.

Whether you choose to wander together, with a friend or solo, you can print out a map, listen to an audio tour, or tour a specific garden.

UW Botanic Gardens Trail Map:  This map can be used year round for self guided tours of the Union Bay Natural Area and Yesler Swamp.

Fragrance Garden Map: Discover what plants are creating the bouquet of scents in the Fragrance Garden located at the east side of NHS Hall.

Self-guided Forest Bathing: a nature immersion activity that has been shown to increase health and well-being. The activity may done at the Center or in your own neighborhood.

Walk with others or enjoy touring at your own pace as you explore the Center’s demonstration gardens. Audio tours are available to download to your phone on the Center's website. (Please be considerate and bring your own phone and headphones in case others would prefer to walk in silence.)

Ample parking is available for the public in the lots off 41st Street. The lower lot is reserved for staff.
